Matcha whisk holder (“Chasen Yasume” 茶筌休め) for the care and preservation of the Chasen’s shape. Both aesthetically and practically, it is an important accessory for the Chasen.
CHASEN YASUME 茶筌休め
A Chasen Yasume is used for the care and preservation of the shape of Matcha whisks (Chasen) and is the recommended tool for storing and drying Chasen. Its shape, typically made of ceramic or wood, allows for better air circulation when drying the Chasen after cleaning, preventing mold formation and extending its lifespan.
An alternative term used in Japan is “Kuse Naoshi” 癖直し. This implies correcting the “curly habit” of the individual prongs and refers to keeping the Chasen in shape. Chasen Yasume 茶筌休め, on the other hand, implies the resting of the Chasen on the holder and adds a bit more aesthetic to the process.
